Sub:Division! began within the independent comic book, Angry
Monkey #1, published in 1998. Sub:Division! was one of four illustrated stories in the comic, with another four animated/interactive titles on an accompanying disc.
Angry Monkey's intent was to use Sub:Division! as a new model for trans-media storytelling. In addition to its comic book form, the story was adapted as an html-based
web comic, an interactive Flash series (see Part 1 and Part 2), and a short-form video version screened in multiple film festivals in 2000 (including the internationally touring juried digital film festival ResFest, the International Film Festival Rotterdam and the Bay Area's own Mill Valley Film Festival).
Writer/director Jean-Paul Leonard has continued his focus on interactive, video and film design through Company Wide Shut, the Los Angeles based company he founded in 2001. In 2003, he designed the end credits for The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, working with concept designer Alan Lee. Jean-Paul is a recent graduate of the American Film Institute Conservatory. |
